MDD without the drawbacks

A promising way to tackle the complexity of big software systems is Model-Driven Development, MDD. The concept has been known for decades but still has got only less than optimal solutions. The point is to enable software developers to view and manipulate the software at a higher abstraction level than the actual source code, while a tool maintains correspondence between the model and the source code.

The unique technology of the tool we are creating at Mutual Satellites avoids the drawbacks of current MDD tools. Our tool provides full round-trip capabilities while still giving developers complete control of all the details of the source code. The tool will allow developers to reap the full benefit of the savings promised by the model-driven development concept.

The September 2003 issue of IEEE Software, had an article by Bran Selic, working in IBM Rational Software and participating in the UML 2.0 standardization. Selic's article goes through a list of seven challenges that MDD tools must address before they will be successful in the market.

The Mutual Satellites tool addresses all seven challenges.
